Become an Energy Impact Illinois Residential Contractor
Energy Impact Illinois (EI2) is looking for well-qualified home energy assessment (audit), home energy upgrade contractors (retrofit), and heating/cooling contractors to join our program.
Benefits of joining EI2 as a participating contractor include:
- Ability to leverage our substantial media campaign to generate sales leads
- Access to special financing and rebate programs for your customers
- Participation in a thorough quality assurance/quality control program that will give your customers confidence in a job well done
- For whole-home energy assessment and upgrade contractors, a pathway for your customers to earn an Illinois Home Performance with Energy Star Certificate.

Whole-Home Energy Assessment or Energy Upgrade Contractors
Energy Impact Illinois supports the Illinois Home Performance with Energy Star (IHP) criteria for whole-home energy assessment and upgrades. To become an Energy Impact Illinois Participating Home Energy Assessment or Energy Upgrade contractor:
- Register with Illinois Home Performance with Energy Star. IHP requires contractors to employ individuals with Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst + Envelope Certifications. There is no fee for participating in IHP.
- Complete the Energy Impact Illinois Residential Contractor Participation Agreement and return it to us.
- If you wish to participate in the Residential Energy Efficiency Loan Program, you must attend a loan training by webinar or in person. Times may be found on the IHP Training Calendar.
- Review the Background Check Policy and complete the Background Check Certification as described in the agreement and return it to us.
- CNT Energy, the implementation agency for Energy Impact Illinois will contact you with any questions or missing information. CNT Energy will likely request the opportunity to conduct a site visit of a previous job you completed to verify the quality of your work.
- Upon approval, CNT Energy will return a signed agreement to you and post your information on EnergyImpactIllinois.org/TheEnergyBills.org. You will then need to report on completed jobs using the forms below.

Heating/Cooling or “Eligible Measures” Contractors
Energy Impact Illinois supports the Participating Energy Efficiency Contractors Network (PEEC) criteria for heating/cooling/HVAC contractors. Participating Heating/Cooling contractors may participate in the EI2 Residential Energy Efficiency Loan program to offer low-interest loans on certain efficiency packages centered around high efficiency furnace or boiler upgrades (known as “eligible measures”). To become an Energy Impact Illinois Participating Eligible Measures contractor:
- Register with the PEEC Network. PEEC requires contractors to employ individuals with one of several nationally recognized HVAC certifications. There is no fee for participating in the PEEC Network.
- Complete the Energy Impact Illinois Participating Eligible Measures Contractor Agreement and return it to us. Note that this agreement includes participation in the Residential Energy Efficiency Loan Program as this is the only program EI2 sponsors that include incentives for HVAC contractors.
- Review the Background Check Policy and complete the Background Check Certification as described in the agreement and return it to us.
- Attend a training on the Residential Energy Efficiency Loan Program either by webinar or in person. Times may be found on the IHP Training Calendar.
- CNT Energy, the implementation agency for Energy Impact Illinois will contact you with any questions or missing information. CNT Energy will likely request the opportunity to conduct a site visit of a previous job you completed to verify the quality of your work.

Information on Non-Residential Contracting
Energy Impact Illinois is not including non-residential contractors on EnergyImpactIllinois.org nor recommending particular certifications for non-residential contractors. However, we encourage participation the utility’s Trade Ally networks. Consult ComEd and Peoples/North Shore/Nicor for more information.
